Electro-Mechanical Engineer
Location:  Apex, NC

     Job Description
  • Use engineering principles to design and modify robotic end effectors and tools. You will work with other engineers, designers and Manufacturing personnel to complete design projects. You will communicate with managers and Manufacturing and Sales staff concerning your design project.
  • Investigate and resolve technical problems involving product performance, production equipment or facility systems affecting production.
  • Perform a variety of engineering tasks in the planning and design of electro-mechanical products, manufacturing and assembly tooling, electrical enclosures and cable assemblies. Determine and establish specifications through engineering calculations and layouts. Use appropriate engineering tools such as CAD, FMEA, DFA, in the successful completion of design projects.
  • As a Project Leader you will coordinate all phases of development including creation, prototypes, testing and analysis. Establish and monitor adherence to time lines and schedules. Complete all project documentation required, direct the efforts of assigned support personnel as required to ensure on time project completion, be responsible for tracking the cost of components with minimizing cost as one design criteria and work closely with all areas of the company to successfully complete the projects.
  • Work with component suppliers, manufacturers, outside labs and other service providers as needed to assure the most cost effective, robust designs are implemented.
  • Continue to learn new skills and techniques through in-house training, outside training/coursework, seminars, trade shows and appropriate use of the internet and participate in the training of other members of the engineering team in these skills.
  • Communicate with customers and the Sales staff to determine all the technical specifications for a project. Continue customer interface as required during the design, production, implementation and trouble shooting of the product, including plant trips as required.
  • Provide support and assistance to coworkers as appropriate to enhance the performance and success of the engineering department and the company as a whole.
  • Product design and development done by the study of the robotic and automation market for new ideas (e.g. patents, trade magazines, trade shows, plant visits) and personal creativity.
  • Provide electrical engineering support and development for existing and future electrical products. The primary focus will be on supporting the development of new products in the Electrical Module group. This shall include:
  • Developing improvements in current electronics. This will include the development of new PCBs to facilitate module assembly, reduce overall cost and parts count, and/or to provide a significant functional advantage.
  • Check the customer and assembly drawings of electrical modules created by the Electrical Module group.
  • Support and troubleshoot current electronic designs.
  • Develop engineering standards relating to the electrical characteristics of ATI products.
  • Electrical schematic creation in Orcad.
  • Create models and drawings in SolidWorks or equivalent solid modeling CAD package. Prepare detail and assembly drawings for complex products and equipment. Design and develop new models, mechanisms, or adaptations for a particular product or application.
  • Develop correct proportions, giving consideration to stress, speed, weight, proper function and manufacturability.
  • Perform tolerance analysis to ensure proper fit/function of completed assemblies and to minimize parts cost.

    Skills Requirements
  • Demonstrated SolidWorks solid modeling and detail/assembly drawing proficiency.
  • Solid history designing electro-mechanical components for automation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ASME Y14.5 – 2009 Standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, and Visio).

    Education Requirements
  • BSEE or BSME is required and five years of electro-mechanical designing experience.

Facilities Maintenance Technician
Location:  Apex, NC

     Job Description
  • ATI Industrial Automation is seeking a qualified Facilities Maintenance Technician. This is a skilled position with proficiency in the maintenance, repair. This position will maintain, repair, and install HVAC systems in addition to minor plumbing/piping installations. Applicant should be proficient with electrical systems up to 480 VAC and be knowledgeable of the construction, installation, maintenance and repair of secondary electrical systems, equipment and fixtures.
  • Job Responsibilities
  • Understand and follow proper Lockout/ Tagout procedures before working on any piece of equipment or system.
  • Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on the factory floor and other designated areas.
  • Adhere to all safety rules, policies and procedures required by OSHA.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical systems issues as they pertain to factory operations and individual pieces of equipment.
  • Respond to both planned and immediate maintenance requests.
  • Perform required Preventive Maintenance work as scheduled to keep equipment at high uptime levels.
  • Troubleshoot and repair various types of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment in a timely manner.
  • Repair, rebuild, or overhaul equipment including but not limited to material handling lifts, hydraulic valves/motors, and HVAC systems.
  • Help monitor spare parts levels to ensure adequate inventory is on hand.
  • Provide support to assembly operations as well as other needs of the facility and grounds.
  • Work in a team setting to investigate and correct complex situations, work with outside contractors on specialized projects.

    Skills Requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as maintenance manuals, engineering blueprints, and electrical schematics.
  • Comfortable using a computer including Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Highly skilled in the use of a wide array of hand tools and power tools.
  • Capable of working in a self-directed manner and able to meet deadlines.
  • Possess strong organization skills.
  • Possess excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Possess robust logic and problem solving skills paying close attention to detail.
  • Knowledgeable of general safety and as it relates to maintenance functions.
  • Ability to work off-shift, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.

    Education Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • 5+ years related experience in multiple skilled trades.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting 3-phase 480 electrical systems.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting machine controls and automation.

FT Controls Engineer
Location:  Apex, NC

     Job Description
  • Development and continuous improvement of manufacturing and quality test, calibration and production software and control systems:
  • Defining project specifications and project lifecycle
  • Creating test plans
  • Defining database structures for defining test criteria and storing results
  • Documenting electrical and controls schematics
  • Developing test and calibration software
  • Developing intuitive user interfaces and HMI applications
  • Control and test system validation
  • Creating test instruction and other documentation for operation
  • Continuous support and improvement of installed equipment
  • Work in collaboration with manufacturing engineering team to solve production issues, efficiency and continuous improvement goals.
  • Work with Electrical, Mechanical and Software Design Engineers to implement new calibration software and tests
  • Analyze product specifications, firmware and existing test programs to determine test requirements for new product introductions and continuous improvement of existing test systems.
  • Implement corrective actions due to internal and customer quality issues
  • Participate in product design reviews to ensure manufacturability
  • Documentation of test procedures and training test operators/technicians.
  • Use failure analysis techniques to proactively determine potential manufacturing issues

    Skills Requirements
  • Programming experience w/ LabVIEW
  • Programming experience in C/C++/C#, Java and PLC Programming is a plus
  • Understanding of matrix math and data manipulation
  • Working knowledge of industrial fieldbuses, ethernet and serial communication

    Education Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Engineering Degree with applicable experience
  • 3-5 years of Experience in writing test software

Precision Machined Parts Estimator
Location:  Apex, NC

     Job Description
  • Analyze drawings to determine machining, gaging, and tooling requirements.
  • Review lead time requests from Purchasing and estimate fabrication time required. Create routings accordingly.
  • Procure raw materials needed for scheduled jobs.
  • Estimate cost to produce parts and record in ERP system. Update as necessary.
  • Track scheduled jobs for variance from estimated time.
  • Track scheduled jobs versus capacity of machine shop work center.
  • Analyze history of making parts internally to decide when volume/costs are such that outsourcing is recommended.
  • Attend the Production Scheduling Meeting to report on Machine Shop capacity and current lead times.
  • Work with the Engineering Department to provide marked up fabrication drawings, facilitating updates to the current standard.

    Skills Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a machinist.
  • Knowledge of material properties and characteristics.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and machine processes.
  • Ability to create CNC programs for machine tools utilizing Mastercam or similar CAM software
  • Ability to operate machine tools including mills (manual and CNC), lathes, drills, etc.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be a US citizen with dependable transportation.

Sales Account Manager
Location:  Apex, NC

     Job Description
  • Acts as an independent, individual contributor to facilitate the discovery, diagnosis, and design, and deliveries of high-value customer products and services
  • Operates as program leader for all new and assigned accounts
  • Develops, maintains and strengthens sustainable customer relationships
  • Develop a trusted advisor relationship with key customer stakeholders and executive sponsors
  • Acts as customer’s representative to internally communicate the needs and expectations of the customer
  • Communicates frequently and clearly the progress of client engagements and program initiatives to both internal and external stakeholders
  • Forecasts sales for existing and new accounts, including tracking defined key account metrics
  • Identifies and grows opportunities within sales territory and collaborate within the sales teams to ensure growth attainment
  • Manages all account communications and interactions using internal CRM database, verifies quotations and sales order accuracy
  • Assists with high severity requests or issue escalations as needed
  • Accountable for post sales, customer service support

    Skills Requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and influence at all levels of ATI and the customers’ organizations
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain strong customer relationships
  • Experienced in delivering company solutions that align with explicit customer needs
  • Proven ability to work independently with high organizational and time management skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize multiple projects with high attention to detail
  • Effective negotiations and meeting facilitation skills

  • Has experience in uncovering, diagnosing, and designing technical solutions consistent with customer needs.
  • Ability to travel 30%- 50% domestically (North America) and occasional international travel when appropriate.

    Education Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years experience selling technical products within industrial automation and manufacturing markets (e.g. automotive, aerospace, packaging, electronic assembly, etc.).
  • BA/BS degree preferred or relevant experience in technical sales

Senior Electronics Engineer
Location:  Apex, NC

     Job Description
  • Complete electronic designs for tool changers and force torque sensors, involving embedded systems, fieldbus interfaces, electrical motors, low noise analog circuits and DCDC converters.

    Skills Requirements
  • Lead product development projects from the concept phase to manufacturing launch
  • Write project and product requirements specifications
  • Directly interface with customers to clearly and concisely communicate technical information.
  • Architect and design hardware solutions by analyzing the performance and feasibility of alternative hardware concepts using circuit theory and simulations.
  • Implement physical hardware designs by selecting components, capturing schematics and supervising PCB layouts
  • Supervise external contractors; work with outside labs
  • Support the assembly of prototypes by providing documentation and assistance to ensure high quality prototypes are built in a timely manner.
  • Develop and execute hardware design verification test plans per requirements specifications to ensure prototypes meet design requirements.
  • Develop project documentation in accordance with quality and change management procedures and guidelines to ensure project information is properly organized and archived.
  • Provide support for existing and future electrical products and general electronics engineering support for the entire company
  • Mentor less experienced team members
  • Conduct design reviews, participate in and facilitate DFMEAs

    Education Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required for this position. A Masters degree is desirable
  • Experience with the selection and control of electrical motors is required
  • Experience with the design of motor control electronics is required
  • Experience of at least 6 years in a position with similar responsibilities is required.
  • Previous experience developing a minimum of two (2) products from concept through production is required.
  • Experience with DFMEA, EMI/EMC test is required
  • Design experience with analog components and circuits required for the precision measurement of low voltages, embedded systems and DC/DC converters is required
  • Experience with Orcad Capture, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT is a plus.
  • Experience with designing for functional safety, especially for IEC 61508 and ISO 13849 is a plus
