ATI Tool Changer Enables Quick and Automatic Exchange of Press Transfer Tooling

Wayne Trail Technologies Utilizing QC-210 Tool Changers

Apex, NC,  setembro 21, 2011

Wayne Trail Technologies has been providing “through-the-window” style, servo-based, transfer automation to the metal stamping and forming industry for over a decade. Their design has been proven through millions of cycles in factories around the world. Wayne Trail transfers provide maximum visibility in the die area and enable a variety of coil, blank, and finished part handling options for stations that can extend within, or even beyond, the confines of the press window area.

To accommodate part-type changes within their customers' stamping operations, Wayne Trail incorporates four (4) ATI QC-210 Tool Changers in each of their "through the window" press transfers. ATI Tool Changers allow the automatic coupling and un-coupling of two (2) gripper/finger tooling bars, which are paired to a press-die set via a set of docking stations. The Tool Changers enable their transfer to dock and un-couple the tooling bars to the die set prior to a die change, and then couple and un-dock the new tooling bars once the new die set is in place. Electrical, signal, and pneumatic cabling is routed through the tooling bars to the Tool Changers via attached ATI Utility Modules. "Thanks to ATI's Tool Changers, transfer finger tooling bars are now changed over quickly, easily, and without any manual intervention, significantly reducing changeover and set-up times.", states Doug Knapke, sales manager with Wayne Trail Technologies.

ATI offers a wide selection of Tool Changer models to cover a variety of applications. All ATI Tool Changers feature their patented Fail-Safe Locking Mechanism and No-Touch Locking™ technology. Key features include: Excellent repeatability, high rigidity, and a lightweight and compact design. With over 20 years of robotic end-effector innovation, ATI’s engineering department, the largest of its kind for a robotic tooling company, is focused on developing cost-effective, state-of-the-art products and solutions.
