Application Engineer
Location: Rochester Hills, MI     

Job Description
  • The Application Engineer (AE) is responsible for technical service and application support before and after the sale of the ATI products. The AE evaluates customer applications and makes recommendations for product use, model and option selection, and assists customers with technical questions and issues. The AE offers technical assistance to the sales department in the generation of new sales. The AE works with engineering to develop specifications in support of new product creation and development for customers. The AE provides on-site service and assistance at customer locations. Regular and effective communications within the customer base, sales and marketing teams, engineering teams, product development test and internal production and quality departments are critical to individual and team performance success.
  • Job Responsibilities:
  • Work with customers to define application requirements and select appropriate ATI products and options
  • Assist customers with technical questions and troubleshooting of issues
  • Coordinate with Product Service Engineer, manufacturing, quality and engineering as needed for additional technical support and product issue resolution
  • Coordinate with design engineer and account manager to develop new product specifications and requirements. Supports engineering throughout new product development process.
  • Travel to customer sites to perform product service, training, and/or troubleshooting
  • Assist account managers with technical sales presentations at customer sites
  • Identifies and communicates potential product improvements, and new product ideas with engineering, manufacturing and quality. Analyze impact of product changes on existing customers.
  • Write trip and service reports and log all customer communication in ATI database
  • Travel varies throughout the year depending on customer needs—about 20% travel, primarily domestic and Canada with opportunity for other international travel.


    Skills Requirements
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in person, via telephone and email
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills of technical information to varied audiences
  • Ability to analyze technical problems/issues on electro-mechanical systems and effectively articulate verbal and written recommendations and solutions.
  • Proven ability to work independently with high organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to quickly learn and obtain high-level knowledge of the organization’s product line, as well as working knowledge of software and hardware used by customers
  • Advanced verbal and written communications skills in English
  • Ability to travel to Canada

    Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution, preferably mechanical or electrical engineering.
