ATI Releases the Wireless F/T

Portable Device Wirelessly Streams Data from up to Six 6-Axis Transducers at a Time

ATI Industrial Automation has just released the Wireless F/T, a small wireless transmitter for up to six ATI Multi-Axis Force/Torque transducers. It can be powered by its internal battery or an external power source, and it uses the 802.11a/b/g/n wireless standard at 2.4 GHz or 5.0 GHz. The Wireless F/T can stream up to 1200 six-axis measurements per second to the user’s host device for data collection, real-time motion control, or user-defined signal processing. Up to three transducers can be used with the WNet-3 Wireless F/T, and up to six transducers can be used with the WNet-6 Wireless F/T.


Product Features

  • Battery or externally powered 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5.0 GHz wireless transmitter and USB 2.0 device. Supports as many as six ATI transducers simultaneously.

  • Typical range is 30 m (98 ft), in an office-type environment. With unobstructed environments a 100 m (328 ft) range is possible.

  • Small enclosure with robust mounting feature:
    WNet-3 Wireless F/T: 150 mm × 82 mm × 19 mm (5.9 in × 3.2 in × 0.75 in), excluding mating connectors.
    WNet-6 Wireless F/T: 150 mm × 82 mm × 33 mm (5.9 in × 3.2 in × 1.3 in), excluding mating connectors.

  • Battery life is approximately one hour at full measurement rate with six transducers enabled, and is extended at lower data rates and/or by disabling one or more transducers. Five to ten minute low-battery warning indicator.

  • Includes a demo program and Java source code.
  • Certifications: FCC Mobile Device (US). The equipment should be installed and operated with a minimum distance of 20 cm from any person's body.
  • Pending Certifications: FCC (US), IC (Canada), and CE Mark (Europe).


Additional Capabilities

  • Multiple Power Options: Uses a removable 3.7V lithium-polymer rechargeable battery that can be charged internally or externally. The Wireless F/T can be powered from the USB connector, using an external, high-current, 5VDC power supply.
  • Removable Antenna: The Wireless F/T may be used without its external antenna allowing the unit to operate in a small space.

ATI’s Force/Torque Sensor System measures six components of force and torque (Fx, Fy, Fz, Tx, Ty, Tz) and features a compact design, hardened stainless steel construction, high-speed output, overload protection, span temperature compensation options, and high signal-to-noise ratio. ATI offers a wide range of custom and standard sensor models from 17 mm to 330 mm and include environmental protection (IP) on most models.
