CHANGING THE FUTURE OF END-OF-LINE TESTING WITH ROBOTIC TOOL CHANGERS
For more than 30 years, Fori Automation has delivered leading-edge automation solutions for heavy industrial applications. A large portion of Fori’s business involves End-of-Line Testing systems. The systems provide quality assurance and validate the functionality of each unit before it reaches the customer. Transitioning from manual to automated processes increases accuracy and quality, plus ensures greater throughput for OEMs. Fori recently transformed an automotive OEM’s Wheel Alignment System from multiple manual processes to a single system using FANUC robots and ATI’s Heavy Duty Tool Changers.

IA-ROBOTICS AND ATI DEBURRING TOOLS PUT A NEW SPIN ON WHEEL MAKING
Developing and integrating optimized manufacturing solutions, iA-ROBOTICS specializes in intelligent robotic automation systems. Recently, iA-ROBOTICS is using ATI’s Radially-Compliant Deburring Tools to change the way aluminum wheel makers manufacture their products. Wheel manufacturing utilizes both manual and machine processes. A consistent challenge manufacturers face is recruiting and retaining skilled laborers to perform the tedious manual tasks. One such task is the removal of flash material from the wheel castings.

COLLISION SENSORS BOOST SAFETY AND EFFICIENCY OF COMAU’S LASER BRAZING PROCESS
Comau is a global automation company that specializes in automation solutions that include welding robots and laser processing technology. One such technology, called laser brazing, utilizes a laser beam to join two or more pieces of material together. Working with heavy industrial equipment such as this, the potential for a crash is inherent; it’s not a matter of if it will happen, but when. According to Mark Anderson, Comau’s Materials & Technology Director, NAFTA Region, ATI’s Robotic Collision Sensor Model SR-131 was the perfect solution to protect the sensitive laser.

ATI’S FORCE/TORQUE SENSORS HELP STANFORD RESEARCHERS CUT TIES WITH OLD FLIGHT TESTING METHODS
In nature, when a bird, insect, or bat takes flight, it looks effortless and simple. Understanding how these animals generate lift and move through the air proves to be much more complex. Assistant Professor David Lentink leads a group of graduate researchers from Stanford University who are using ATI’s Force/Torque Sensors to unravel this mystery. The team has invented a so called “aerodynamic force platform” for measuring the aerodynamic forces during free flight experiments with well-trained birds. During flights in the AFP, wingbeats create pressure changes in the air which are translated by ATI’s Nano43 Sensors into aerodynamic force measurements.
