ATI AND ELECTROIMPACT REINVENT HOW NASA LOOKS AT CARBON FIBER ATI and Electroimpact Reinvent How NASA Looks at Carbon Fiber

A new method of automated carbon fiber assembly has been developed and it will revolutionize the current manufacturing process. This process is called Integrated Structural Assembly of Advanced Composites or ISAAC. The system was created by Electroimpact, a highly experienced aerospace automation company, with close guidance by NASA Langley. ISAAC consists of a modified version of a standard KUKA industrial robot and a large, rotating, disk-like head that is loaded with up to 16 spools of carbon fiber ribbon. ISAAC utilizes ATI Robotic Tool Changers in the head of the end-effector, allowing it to be automatically detached and replaced with identical ones loaded with different tools. This enables the system to change over to another job efficiently, allowing engineers to dream up very dynamic options, and to enable quick implementation. Read_More_>

FORCE/TORQUE SENSOR AT THE CORE OF CUTTING-EDGE ORTHOPAEDIC SIMULATOR
ATI Force/Torque Sensor at the Core of Cutting-Edge Orthopaedic Simulator The BioRobotics Laboratory at the Cleveland Clinic has created and launched a new robotics testing technology for orthopaedic biomechanics research that integrates with ATI Multi-Axis Force/Torque Sensor systems. This system, known as simVITRO, provides new insight into how the body is designed, how orthopaedic implants will perform, and the potential outcomes of surgical interventions. The simVITRO system combines software, hardware, and integration services to create a universal musculoskeletal simulator that can provide in vitro simulation of major joints including the spine, knee, foot/ankle, hip, shoulder, elbow, wrist, and more. NEW COUPLING TECHNOLOGY FOR PRESS TRANSFER SYSTEM
ATI and Güdel Announce New Coupling Technology for 3-Axis Press Transfer SystemATI Industrial Automation and Güdel, Inc. announce collaboration on transfer press systems where exchangeable transfer rails are secured by specially engineered ATI Tool Changers. This coupler upgrade mitigates common issues that cause other exchangeable rails to get stuck between die changes. With numerous production runs and die changes per day, this is a major productivity breakthrough for the customer. Read_More_>

TOOL CHANGERS CRITICAL TO ASEPTIC MANUFACTURING SYSTEM’S SUCCESS
ATI Tool Changers Critical to Aseptic Manufacturing System’s Success Some of the greatest challenges pharmaceutical companies face in filling applications is not only maintaining a sterile environment while filling the containers, but also being able to adapt to different container types. Historically, this was done using several manufacturing lines, each dedicated to a particular container style. Automated Systems of Tacoma Inc. (AST) was asked to develop one flexible robotic system that could do both - the ASEPTiCell system is able to fill pre-sterilized vials, syringes, cartridges, and infusion bags using one streamlined system, while also maintaining an aseptic environment. ATI Develops Two New Series of Compliance Devices
Lateral and Pivoting Compliance Devices
ATI Industrial Automation has developed two new series of compensators (patented) that allow compliance in multiple directions. These unique devices allow pieces to be gripped or routed reliably even if the workpiece is severely misaligned. Both of these series are designed for high endurance and high repeatability, and have robust guidance allowing for high moment loads in a compact work envelope. Read_More_>

ATI Develops New Series of Single-Axis Compliant Deburring Tools
Single-Axis Compliant Deburring Tools
ATI has developed a new series of Single-Axis Compliant Deburring Tools. The RS-151, RS-340, and RS-660-ER models provide radial, single-axis compliance allowing the spindle and cutter to pivot in one plane about a single-axis to provide high stiffness parallel to (and excellent compliance perpendicular to) the direction of motion resulting in exceptional surface finishes. ATI Develops Inductive Tool Changer Power Modules
Inductive Tool Changer Modules
The NF12 is a new non-contact inductive coupler pass-through module for ATI Standard Series Robotic Tool Changers. The NF12 Master Module will inductively provide power through an air gap to the NF12 Tool Module to power up to twelve (12) sensors. In turn, the NF12 Tool Module will transmit signals from the sensors inductively to the NF12 Master Module through the air gap. The NF12 Master Module is powered on the robot-side with 24VDC power.
